BIRDS OF A FEATHER

Kamrun and Jaheen celebrated their wedding over memorial day weekend at Greentree Country Club in New Roshelle, New York.
The club offers waterfront views of Long Island Sound and features a historic estate overlooking the sound.
The Estate was the perfect May location for large wedding reception, comfortably fitting the couples 600+ guests.

Holud Traditions: Rooted in Love

One the primary inspirations behind Kamrun and Jaheen’s events was their identities as Bangladeshi-Americans. No Bangladeshi event could be started without a traditional Gaye Holud! It was a vibrant prelude to the days of celebration ahead, hosted at Agra Palace. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, Kamrun and Jaheen honored their Bengali heritage— a vivid event woven with tradition, laughter, music, and of course — mishti.

“My overall favorite look has to be my gaye holud look. The colors, the 8 strings of fresh jasmines wrapped around my hair, the jewelry and just everything was so much fun.”

Kamrun, affectionately called Shoronica by her family, wore a dress that was a kaleidoscope of culture and flair—each detail worthy of its own close-up. Her lehenga was a stunning patchwork of emerald, saffron, marigold, and vermilion, embellished with delicate mirror work that caught the light with every movement. An airy golden dupatta, dusted with silver sequins, floated over her shoulders like sunlight, framing the intricate mehndi that climbed elegantly up her arms. Bangles stacked in a vibrant gradient from green to red clinked with every step, anchored by golden jhumkis that swayed with festive charm. Her jewelry was nothing short of regal—an ornate choker layered with pearls and multicolored stones, glimmering against her neckline. Altogether, it was a look that didn’t just honor her culture—it celebrated it.

Jaheen stood in elegant contrast—a forest green embroidered vest layered over a crisp ivory kurta set. When standing side by side, they completed each other both in style and in spirit. When asked about their love, no other words come to mind besides: “It’s bollywood coded!”

This is our favorite photo from the holud event because it captures the love between us, while also showcasing our theme and all of the details of our look effortlessly. It's bollywood coded! (Kamrun + Jaheen)

“We met on Instagram! A playful dm that led to exchanging corny "dad" jokes moved on to exchanging numbers. Jaheen told me he can cook instant 1 minute rice in 58 seconds along with being his charming self, and I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Almost a decade later, here we are!”

The playfulness between Jaheen and Kamrun is obvious right from the start. When taking Kamrun’s photos, Jaheen walked into the stage space, causing an impromtu first look to happen in the most fun and unexpected way. Jaheen’s reaction to Kamrun’s holud attire, had him on the floor (literally!) and Kamrun in fits of laughter and joy. It was the perfect start to a wedding weekend.

Kamrun’s friends and family showed up in full force—and full color. Her bridesmaids wore vibrant orange salwar kameez sets with hot pink dupattas, each look accented with golden thread work and delicate shimmer. The room came alive with laughter and sequins as they circled Kamrun, glowing in her presence and hyping every moment with that one-of-a-kind sisterhood energy. Meanwhile, her family brought their A-game as well with stunning floral patterned mustard yellow dresses, and golden accessories that sparkled with every move. It wasn’t just a bridal party—it was a glam squad, a cheer section, and a walking entourage all at once.

The evening began with vivacious energy as Jaheen and Kamrun made their entrances. Jaheen, lifted by his groomsmen, set the tone that tonight was going to be a night to remember. Kamrun followed shortly, entering beneath a delicate canopy of blooms held aloft by the hands that raised her. She moved with grace and energy, a vision of joy wrapped in tradition. Her smile vibrant beneath the soft lights as she set her eyes on Jaheen.

As the ceremony began, family and friends took their turns feeding the couple sweets and applying holud paste gently on their cheeks— each smear a symbol of joy and well wishing.

“We are both Bangladeshi/Bengali. Jaheen is from Sylhet, so after my wedding ceremony was over, his family welcomed me into their home with a traditional fish cutting ceremony. Where I'm from in Sandwip, a part of Chittagong, we consider our biye bari's (wedding home) incomplete without pitha's, which were handmade and showcased at our Gaye Holud event and also enjoyed throughout wedding week at home.

Just by standing in their presence, it was clear—this couple and their entire family were born to celebrate. The performances were perfectly choreographed by family and friends. Friends twirled in a cascade of vibrant hues, their laughter echoing with every spin. Siblings took center stage with choreographed flair, fusing timeless customs with modern, playful energy. Spontaneous dance circles broke out like firecrackers—each one more animated than the last.

When Jaheen and Kamrun stepped in for a playful number, the floor erupted. Their rhythm, their laughter, their effortless chemistry—it felt like the world paused to watch. “Salaam Ishq” was the most memorable performance of the night, as no Bollywood story is complete without a dance-off between the groom and the girl he is pursuing followed closely by their friends. Every move was a snapshot of celebration and joy. It was an infectious number, bringing guests to their feet in excitement and cheer. (It was so infectious Salma played the song all weekend in car rides to your events!)

The Gaye Holud wasn’t just an event—it was a carefully curated expression of tradition and trend, of roots and romance. With every smile, every petal, every dance move, Jaheen and Shoronica’s love story unfolded in bold, beautiful layers.

WALIMA

We began the day with portraits as the sun shone bright in a cloudless sky. Kamrun stepped into the soft light like it had been waiting for her all day. Her ivory and silver lehenga shimmered gently in the sunlight. The tiara at her crown caught the breeze, and everything about her—her poise, her ease, her smile—felt luminous. Jaheen handsomely stood nearby in a perfectly tailored Todd Snyder black tux, awaiting the first look.

Jaheen’s eyes set upon Kamrun with a twinkled and laughter of joy and amazement. Clutching his heart as he did during their impromptu first look the days before. Kamrun and Jaheen wrote each other letters for this very moment. Trying to encapsulate their emotions into words on paper. For a few short minutes, they looked at each other like the universe had folded in around them—every breath, every glance meant only for the other, as if nothing else had ever mattered.

“We both loved our "first look". We were nervous in the morning, avoiding seeing each other at all costs even though our bridal and groom suites were not too far apart in the venue. The moment leading up to when we would turn around and see each other ready to tackle our big day, but being able to share it privately, meant a lot to us. We were both wowed with how everything came together, and the photos really captured the beauty of this moment effortlessly.”

The reception space felt like it was plucked from a dream and rooted in intention. Every detail spoke of careful thought and layered meaning—from the invitations hand picked by Kamrun’s father, to the little gold birds, to the ivory Jimmy Choo heels cradled by springs of baby’s breath.

“When Manisha and I sat down to think and come up with ideas, we knew we wanted the guests to come into the venue and feel like they were in a completely different space. We had crystal birds hanging on the stage, with large trees tying in a very open and natural look, but we didn't stop there. To bring the whole look together we decided to use similar pieces for our centerpieces with gold bird cages and trees. We played around with dimension by distributing different heights for different centerpieces throughout the venue as well. The bridesmaids were in green to tie in with the bride's bouquet, jewelry and decor, but the family colors were incorporated in the bridesmaids bouquet and in the family corsages and boutonnieres. The groomsmen and the men on both sides of the families were in similar soft shades for their suits and tuxedos with accents of lavender, baby pink and green. We wanted everyone to have a piece of everyone else if that makes sense.”

As guests entered the venue, they were transported into a space that felt both enchanted and deeply personal. Kamrun, alongside her friend Manisha, envisioned a setting that was immersive and full of intention. The stage was adorned with delicate crystal birds suspended in flight, in remembrance of Kamrun’s beloved pet bird, which were framed by towering trees that brought a sense of openness and nature indoors. That motif carried through every corner—golden birdcages and blooming trees were used as centerpieces, thoughtfully varied in height to play with dimension and keep the eye moving. Cascading florals—white roses, orchids, and clouds of baby’s breath—framed the seating area like a living sculpture, while golden accents glinted softly under chandelier light.

When it came to capturing the wedding party, we could see the vision Kamrun dreamt of in full effect. The choice of colors for the wedding party was just as intentional as the decor. The bridesmaids’ green dresses echoed the bride’s bouquet, jewelry, and floral palette, while the corsages and boutonnieres wove in soft family hues—lavender, blush, and sage—blurring the lines between each side and binding them into one. Every design choice felt like a thread, carefully pulled through to tie people together and bring the couple’s vision to life. Kamrun opted for a first look with her family, their reactions filled with nostalgia and emotion: their little girl, is now a bride.

The wedding party set the tone from the very first beat—bursting through the doors with infectious energy and dance that had the entire room cheering. Dressed to perfection and radiating joy, they turned the entrance into a celebration all its own.

After Jaheen and Kamrun’s entrance and heartfelt speeches from their parents, the bride and groom descended onto the dance floor. Their first dance unfolded over a cloud of fog, lit softly from below. The reception was followed by merriment, good food, exceptional company and of course a long line of guests waiting to greet the bride and groom, congratulating them and taking photos.

“…Our Reception was our favorite day. The grand finale. Our friends and family were waiting to celebrate our love and union with a big bang, and we were so happy and blessed with how everything turned out. Countless months of planning and preparing went into this, and it was like a dream come true. We are so grateful to have worked with everyone on our team, and for our friends and family. The memories we made "behind the scenes" for our grand finale event are memories we will cherish forever.”

There are moments in a wedding that feel completely unscripted. This was one of them.

In traditional Bangladeshi weddings, the stealing of the groom’s shoes is a time honored tradition. It usually goes as follows: the bride’s family is plots to steal the groom’s shoes in order to hold it as ransom for money. We’ve captured this tradition many times, but this one was on a whole new level. It spiraled quickly into something more theatrical. What started off as an innocent group stage photo, evolved into a visceral battle for Jaheen’s shoes. There was grabbing on both sides, tugging shoes, limbs, clothes, just for the chance to get the shoes.

“My favorite piece of content I made [for Kamrun and Jaheen] had to be the shoe stealing, never have I ever seen something so chaotic and so funny. I really wanted go translate what happened in real life into a video and I’m so glad i got to share that with everyone. It definitely made everyone laugh and feel like they were there too.” - Rahmee @rahfilmclub

The struggle gained traction beyond the stage, the shoe flew, and next thing we know, we are chasing down the wedding party all across the venue with cameras in hand, trying to capture the chaos. At the final moment, the shoe rose among the crowd, and one of Kamrun’s bridesmaids had secured the bargaining chip. Jaheen stood atop a chair, hands crossed, smiling like a man who thrives in chaos. Just as we thought the dust settled and the event could resume… a stray hair extension on the ground caught everyone’s attention. And the crowd went nuts.

And then, the lights shifted. The music deepened. The dance floor opened, and the night exhaled.

Kamrun moved through the crowd like she was made for it—tiara still in place, arms thrown around her friends, bangles catching every beat. Jaheen wasn’t far behind, spinning, laughing, pulling more people into the fold.

In Bangladeshi culture, the bride will say her goodbyes to her family as she leaves with her husband. Back home, this is often symbolic to leaving to another village where a bride would now reside. It is an emotional moment, where parents and siblings, acknowledge a change in lifelong bonds as Kamrun’s care will now be with Jaheen and his family. Kamrun’s bidai, turned into a viral moment by her content creator, many viewers commenting how they were teary eyed as they relived this moment with Kamrun. Yes, we were too, foggy eyed behind our cameras.

Some weddings feel like a patchwork of trends and tradition—but Jaheen and Kamrun’s reception was a tapestry—thoughtfully chosen, lovingly crafted, and deeply personal. Nothing felt accidental. Everything woven together to reflect not just their love, but their roots, their humor, their families, and their shared vision. This was a celebration crafted not just for beauty, but for memory—for the story of two people who poured themselves into a night that reflected everything they are and everything they love.
